Commissioner of Chennai Corporation re-iterates the importance of teachers as key drivers for transforming Chennai Schools in an event today

Chennai, Sep 09, 2020: This day marked the beginning of the Journey of the many to come, initiatives under the CITIIS Challenge Model and SMART Schools in Chennai – a School Transformation Project of Chennai Smart City. The Chennai School Transformation Project seeks to make Chennai Schools under the administration of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) as a preferred schooling destination delivering on quality infrastructure, smart teaching-learning in classrooms, and enhanced sports/ games facilities. Teacher Capacity Building is one of the core focus areas in the project. The workshops were kick-started today for the Primary & High school Math teachers of GCC Schools. The function was presided and declared open by the Hon. Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation Thiru G Prakash at the newly set-up STEM Lab facility at Chennai Girls Higher Sec School, Saidapet. The Commissioner reiterated the importance of teachers as key drivers for transforming Chennai Schools into Smart Schools with the ability to touch and transform a large part of the student community. He called education a valuable investment and urged the teachers to give their utmost to make this initiative successful. The workshop focused on the perceptions around assessment, their role in building various skills in the learning ladder, and how to manipulate assessment techniques to improve learning outcomes for children. The workshop covered around 50 Mathematics teachers from Chennai Primary to High Schools of GCC. Mr Munian and Ms Nalinakumari, AEOs from the Education Department of Greater Chennai Corporation, Ms. Padmaja, the School Principal of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Saidapet, Mr. Thirumurugan, GCC Zone 10 Officer and the project management team were present during the inaugural event.
