Mambalam skywalk projectcould take shape by year-end

CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is confident that the long-pending skywalk project connecting Mambalam railway station and T Nagar bus terminus will come to fruition by the end of this year.
Conceived four years ago, the project took shape last year after the civic body prepared a detailed report. Tenders have been issued thrice so far this year, but have not been awarded yet. Bids were invited from contractors for the fourth time recently.

“The project will definitely happen. Last time, three bidders took part. Since the whole process is online, there was a lacuna in the documents they submitted. We rejected the bids and issued fresh tenders. We are sure we will have a successful bidder this time,” said an official with the bridges department of GCC.

Once the tender is awarded, the successful bidder will get 15 months to complete the project, estimated at Rs 26.27 crore. Funds for the project would be drawn from the coffers of Chennai Smart City Limited.
The skywalk would facilitate passengers to reach the bus terminus and railway station by avoiding crowded Usman Road and Ranganathan Street Read more
