Madipakkam is a Town Panchayat in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Madipakkam which is at South Chennai is at a distance of 20 km from Chennai City. Madipakkam is surrounded by residential suburbs of Chennai Metropolitan Area such as Puzhuthivakkam, Kilkattalai, Ram Nagar and Velachery and it has good connectivity with transportation facilities. Madipakkam Lake is surrounded by residential areas. Surrounding the Lake, numerous settlements have sprouted out along the northern, southern and eastern Lake boundaries. The Lake is abutting the Lake View Road on the western side and this road has been provided with walker's pathway along the Lake boundary. Hence, it creates a beautiful recreational stretch along the western side. GCC has provided benches on the walker's pathway with the help of private agencies. At present, this lake provides ground water recharge for the surrounding residential areas of Madipakkam and also providing bird nesting island. The catchment area of the lake is the primarily rain and supply channel from the Moovarasampettai lake. The eastern side bund is covered by Palm trees. Western side bunds are provided with walkways and seating arrangements. Northern and southern side bunds are covered by shrubs. The main source of water supply to the lake is from nearby upper Moovarasampatti tank. This water reaches the lake through the present supply channel on the western side. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
