Madipakkam is in Southern part of Greater Chennai Corporation located at a distance of 20 km from the Core City. It has good connectivity with transportation facilities. It is surrounded by residential suburbs of GCC such as Puzhuthivakkam, Keelkattalai, Ram Nagar, and Velachery. Madipakkam falls in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. The Regional Setting of Madipakkam is illustrated in the below figure. Madipakkam Village Pond is surrounded by residential areas on three sides. Surrounding the Pond, numerous settlements have sprouted out along the Pond boundaries & especially in the southern & Eastern end. Madipakkam Village Pond was encroached upon along its boundaries & its water spread area. This Pond has been used a dumping site for solid waste for residences, open defecation & for discharging sewage from the nearby house. Madipakkam Village Pond has a local catchment and intercepted catchment; also the water comes from upper surrounding areas through channel. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
