New Kumaran Nagar Lake is located in Karapakkam, a suburb situated between the IT Hubs of Thoraipakkam and Sholinganallur. It is parallel to Injambakkam on the ECR Highway. The suburb has experienced rapid development with the advent of IT companies along the Old Mahabalipuram Road. The Regional Setting of New Kumaran Nagar Lake is illustrated in the New Kumaran Nagar Lake is surrounded by residential areas on all the four sides. As per the site visit, the lake abuts 2nd Street of new Kumaran Nagar Lake. Kumaran Nagar Lake was encroached upon along its boundaries. This Lake was used as a dumping site for solid waste for residences. The lake is covered by thick vegetation such as neem trees and palm trees. The main source of water supply to the lake is from nearby upper areas. This water reaches the lake through the drain through Kumaran nagar cross streets. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
