Puzhudivakkam Lake

Puzhudivakkam Lake

Puzhudivakkam, commonly known as Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam, it's one of the southern neighbourhoods of Greater Chennai Corporation. Puzhudivakkam is adjacent to the suburbs Madipakkam, Adambakkam, Velachery, Pallikaranai and Nanganallur. Puzhudivakkam Lake is surrounded by residential areas. The entire length of the pond is surrounded by Neem tress. Puzhudivakkam Lake is located in the midst of recently developed residential areas. Storm water from the local drain is the main source of the lake and the surplus water of this lake finally drains into the Pallikaranai Marshland. It is found that the Puludivakkam Lake receives water from the local catchment area but, at present the existing supply channel is covered by the solid waste from the neighbourhood. It is found that the surplus channel of the lake is connected with the existing surplus course of the Pallikaranai Marshland. Links are being reconstructed to provide the interconnectivity between the lakes. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
