Township colony pond or Tank is located in Ambattur and forms part of Greater Chennai Corporation. Ambattur is a predominant Residential area within the Chennai Metropolitan area and is located near the industrial area in west Chennai. As per the land use plan of the second Master plan, the Township colony pond is surrounded by industrial and residential areas. The development of several residential neighbourhoods surrounding the lake over the past decade has resulted in curtailing the natural hydrological flow of water and the lake acts as a water storage pond in the midst of residences. The bund area was fully encroached by residential area and small scale industries. The storm water from the local catchment was flowing into the pond through the PVC inlet channel and through the roads. The water stored in this tank helps improving the ground water level. The tank and bund all around is occupied by houses up to the water boundary. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
