Udayarpalayam pond or Tank is located in the Athipattu and forms part of Greater Chennai Corporation. Ambattur is a predominant Residential area within the Chennai Metropolitan area and is located near the industrial area in west Chennai. As per the Master plan document, Udayarpalayam pond is surrounded by residential areas. The Tank is bounded by the Athipattu main road on the north and south and Vellalar street on the east. Several neighborhoods have developed along the lake boundaries in all sides, surrounding the lake. The surrounding developments have resulted in the shrinking of the tank area and the tank was surrounded with debris reducing the water spread area. The tank acts as water storage and helps in maintaining the water table in the neighborhood. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
