Union Carbide Colony 9th street pond belongs to the Revenue Department and maintained by GCC.  The pond is situated in Kodungaiyur village which comes under Tondaiyarpet Zone. The pond is in square shape. Catchment area is not connected to the pond. There are three inlets connected from SWD in north, south and east directions and an outlet at the corporation park side.  The pond gets its storage only from the monsoon rains. The pond is not connected to any upstream and downstream water sources.  Benefits from the implementation of this project include improvement of water quality by providing constructed wetland and aquatic floating island. Due to de-silting and refilling the pond with puddle clay, water will be made available throughout the year and hence, fish culture will be developed. With proper counseling and guidance, the people of the area will take care of the pond and hence, water body will be protected.  The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
