Karumanchavadi Kulam
KarumanchavadiKulam is a local pond owned by Local Merchant Association and GCC.Water in the pond is partly available and is brownish in colour. Algae bloom seen in the pond. Fishes are observed in the pond. Aquatic birds are seen. The pond is not connected to any upstream & downstream water sources, gets storage during the monsoon. Catchment area is connected to local SWD network. Benefits from the implementation of this project include disposing off the surplus water from the catchment area safely to the nearby drain to avoid the inundation of the locality and improved ground water recharge. Improvement in dissolved oxygen by providing the solar aerators that would help improving water quality. Due to de-silting, water storage will increase and made available throughout the year. Fish culture will be developed. The pond serves as a spot of recreation to the local residents. This project will serve as a long-term benefit for the next generation.With proper counseling and guidance by the GCC Engineers, the Resident Association will take care of the pond and hence, water body will be protected.The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
