PeriyaEri is a local pond owned and maintained by Public Works Department.  Water is pale brownish in colour. Water Hyacinth found in the pond Fishes are observed. This pond is not connected to any upstream water sources. Catchment area is connected to the pond through local SWD network.  Pond gets storage during the monsoon and inflow from the nearby streets. Pond is deepened to get increased storage. Benefits from the implementation of this project include improvement of water quality by diversion of sewage discharge and providing constructed wetland and floating wetland system. Due to de-silting, water storage will increase and made available throughout the year. Fish culture will be developed. With proper counseling and guidance by the GCC Engineers, the Resident Association will take care of the pond and hence, water body will be protected. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
