Ramapuram is situated on the Mount-Poonamallee Road at a distance of 3 kilometres from Guindy. The 100 year old Arasamaram temple and the Lakshmi Narasimha Perumal temple are very famous in Ramapuram. The neighbourhood is surrounded by MIOT hospital, SRM Hospital, SRM University, SRM Easwari Engineering College, L&T Infotech, IBHYA, and DLF IT Park. Ramapuram Lake is surrounded by residential areas on all the four sides. The main access to the lake is via the Bharathi Salai in the south. The lake is located in Adyar river sub basin. At present Two Inlets are present in the southern and western side of the Lake. Though it is a non-system tank, Ramapuram Lake's inflow and outflow of water was disturbed due to the urbanization activities and human interventions. The water holding capacity of the lake was calculated from the detailed surveys carried out for the tank. The existing capacity of the water body is 3.125 M.cft. It is found that the Ramapuram Lake receives water from the existing storm water inlets in the southern and western side of the Lake besides rainwater. Due to rapid urbanisation, the natural hydrological flow was disturbed and then GCC had found the traces of original supply and surplus channel. Existing roadside storm water drain connects to the canal which is present in south of the Ramapuram Lake near MIOT Hospital abutting Ponamalee road. This canal drains into the Adyar River. Hence, the missing links in the Ramapuram Lake were established to connect the Ramapuram Lake to canal and to drain the surplus water and establish the interconnectivity between them. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
