Reddy kulam pond or Tank is located in the Athipattu and forms part of Greater Chennai Corporation. Ambattur is a predominant Residential area within the Chennai Metropolitan area and is located near the industrial area in west Chennai. As per the Master plan document, Reddy kulam pond is surrounded by residential areas. The Tank is bounded by the Reddy Street on the west, industry on the east, industries and residences on the north and residences on the south. Several neighborhoods have developed along the lake boundaries in all sides, surrounding the lake. Catchment Area or drainage basin or watershed is the extent or an area of land where surface water from rain and waste water let out from households impounds to a single point at a lower level, such as a river, lake, reservoir, estuary, wetland, sea, or ocean. The drainage basin acts as a funnel by collecting all the water within the area covered by the basin and channeling it to a single point. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
