ThanduKaraiKulam is a local pond owned by Revenue Department and maintained by GCC.  Inlet connected to the pond with the existing storm water drain. There is no outlet. Water is pale yellowish in colour. Water hyacinth found in the pond. Fishes are observed in the pond and birds are seen flying around. Catchment area is connected to the pond through local SWD network.  Pond gets storage during the monsoon and inflow from the nearby streets. Pond is deepened to get increased storage. Benefits from the implementation of this project include improvement of water quality by providing constructed wetland system and aquatic floating island. Due to de-silting, water storage will increase and made available throughout the year. Fish culture will be developed. With proper counseling and guidance by the GCC Engineers, the Resident Association will take care of the pond and hence, water body will be protected. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
