Vembuli Amman Koil Pond
Vembli Amman Kooil Pond is a Temple pond owned by Revenue Department and maintained by GCC. There is an inlet available in the North West corner and connected with the SWD network. No outlet is found. Water in the pond is pale yellowish in colour. Algae bloom seen in the pond. Fishes are observed in the pond. Aquatic birds are seen. All round revetment provided with pointing and steps in four sides. The bund is in good condition. The pond is not connected to any upstream & downstream water sources, gets storage during the monsoon. Catchment area is connected to local SWD. Benefits from the implementation of this project include improvement of water quality by providing aquatic floating island and diversion of sewage discharge. Due to de-silting, water storage will increase and made available throughout the year. Fish culture will be developed. The pond serves as a spot of recreation to the local residents. With proper counseling and guidance by the GCC Engineers, the Resident Association will take care of the pond and hence, water body will be protected. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds.
